Some of the most beautiful books ever created are Bibles. Not only is it the oldest book still in existence; it is the most widely distributed. Most families have a large Family Bible tucked away in their attic or basement or up in a closet with all their important dates recorded in them. Many have beautiful handwritten entries or notes in the most wonderful penmanship when people took pride in their letter writing. Each has its own beauty and we have restored and repaired a great many. The finished look will be worthy of being on display on a coffee table or book shelf so all your friends and relatives can admire it.

In addition, for the avid daily Bible reader, a personal copy with your notes that opens to just the right page, is something worth preserving. Yes, you can probably get a new one, but this one has been your loyal companion and is now in need of a little TLC.

Bibles do come in all sizes – Big or Small, we can resew the pages if necessary, preserve some or all of the original cover and anything else you might want, including re-gilding the page edges. Some clients prefer a new fresh look with a brand new cover in a more preferred color. We are happy to oblige….keep it as close to the original as possible or update it to the 21st century. Either way, all the acid free, archival materials we use will assist in the preservation of your Bible.

Traditional cover with metal clasps literally coming apart at the seams. We repaired the pages, replaced the spine and overlaid it with the original one. The client wanted to maintain the worn and aged look so only minor repairs were made to the covers. The original look with the hidden strength of the new.

We were able to maintain a lot of the original Bible; including the original headband, which is often completely destroyed. The metal clasps were repaired and tightened. A new leather spine was created and the original spine overlaid. Leather conditioner was applied to help restore the natural oils in the leather. Doing this helps make the original embossing stand out again.

This Marian Family Bible is a very popular one with overlapping edges that almost always crack and peel. We retained the entire front panel with the artwork and created a new matching wine pigskin cover with rounded corners and raised ribs on the spine. We also were able to keep the beautifully illustrated endsheets.

A new faux leather cover was created and part of the original cover was overlaid. The spine was too brittle for us to maintain. Again we were able to maintain the original illustrations on the endsheets.

This uncommon single-clasp Bible needed a new spine and reconditioning of the cover. We tried to match the original spine as much as possible by adding raised ribs and decorative stamping between each rib. The edges of the cover were repaired to prevent further damage and the clasp was lightly cleaned.

The same old story. We created a new faux leather cover and were able to overlay the pieces of the front cover and spine. We were able to maintain the illustration on the front and back endsheets and actually keep them completely intact.

For constant usage, we recommended replacing the original worn cover with a very durable black pigskin which allows for bending the cover along with the pages. We also kept the bible tabs in place so each book would be easy to find.

This was one of those rare occasions we originally told the customer we were unable to help them because of the extreme condition of the Bible. The customer begged us to work on it and asked us to simply do the best we could. Removing the original cover without damaging the pages was a real challenge. We were able to remove the cover and get the pages bound back together again. The pages are still extremely delicate but can now be read.

This leather cover was literally in pieces as were the pages but the client wanted it to look as original as possible. So we sewed the pages and found a matching pebbled black leather for the new cover. We gold stamped the title in letters very close to what it once had.

This Bible had a dry, cracked cover that overlapped the page edges. We opted to replace it with a new brown cowhide leather cover. Raised ribs were added, some page repairs were done and gold stamping added. The original illustrated endsheets were maintained as well.  The leather and acid free materials that we used will help to preserve the interior pages but with a whole new look.

Sad and coverless, can this Bible be saved? We kept the original gilded pages which now have a wonderful patina and after sewing the pages, we created a new black leather cover with gold stamping.
